The past week has been exceptionally cold and snowy for this time of year, apparently the coldest for around 50 years in Helsinki. I had to turn my apartment’s heating back on and return using my winter shoes. Times must be tougher for the birds, though.
Last week was also a week of vacation. I focused on reading, doing some light exercises and enjoying mornings without an alarm. Yes, hard not to enjoy it more than work.
I also received a Stylophone as a present. This electronic toy music instrument was used by David Bowie, most famously in his first hit single Space Oddity. I’ve been toying around with it, trying to play some known melodies on it. The sound of the device is harsh, but can I now say I do play some musical instrument?

So far I can only play the riff from Deep Purple’s Smoke on the Water track with some confidence on this device.
As for movies, I went to see the old sci-fi action movie Predator on a big screen. Back when I was a teenager I thought it was a cool movie, but now way older it was more of a nostalgic observation how actions films were done back then. Especially with Arnold in it. There was a “master class” with the director afterwards, but it didn’t really meet my expectations and the air conditioning in the sold out theatre was struggling keeping the air fresh four hours straight. Felt good to breathe the outside air afterwards.
