For once I went to the modern art museum Kiasma with the intent of giving my attention to as many installations as possible. Usually I tend to just drift past them if it doesn’t seem interesting, but this time I actually sat down and tried to watch all the video installations fully.
In the end, I only managed to go through one of two exhibitions. The video installations in the first were as long as 30 minutes and towards the end I gave up on trying to be a completionist. I wonder when it comes to video art, how many really do bother watching them in full. There were a lot of them around. Still, glad I went with some degree of concentration.
Tiring gaming
Back on the sofa, I finally finished Final Fantasy XII after around 70 hours (according to the game console). I think I wasn’t in the right mood to replay this kind of game this time around. Or maybe I put too much emphasis on the story (after playing Nier: Automata) when I should have just enjoyed the mechanics instead. I hardly did any side quests and no extra dungeons, which probably left a dry taste of the world built in the game.
The music and most of the characters were really bland and only now I learned that one of the writers of the game actually wrote Tactics Ogre as well, which both are heavy on the political scheming. I’m not a huge fan of Tactics Ogre’s hard to follow plot either (and I haven’t even finished the game), so I guess I’m not a huge fan of the writer in general then. How opinions can change towards a game I held in high regard 15 years ago.
Well, I’m going to take at least a week long break from gaming now. I’ve almost cleared my backlog of games now, only one not finished and another still in its plastic sealing.
