Social encounters in virtual spaces

More snow to enjoy in a forest.

Just keeps on snowing, what a proper winter Helsinki is having.

I’ve slowly being digging into the world of Linux with the guidebook I bought and so far it has been interesting stuff. Good thing I have a terminal app on my phone, so I can play around with the commands while commuting to work for instance. Still waiting when the guidebook starts going through stuff that goes over my head.

Cracking open my Mastodon account

I also managed to post an introduction on my Mastodon account. I wasn’t expecting any reaction from it, but to my shock it got a handful (clearly many users follow the #introduction hashtag). I’ve been used to the idea nobody pays attention to anything I post, so this feels almost unnatural. Couldn’t decide should I embrace or flee the situation.

Also, scrolling through my Mastodon feed makes it clear the content isn’t that different from the likes of Twitter (expect for the absence of ads), so it makes me wonder what will I be gaining from all this. I haven’t thought about the use of it further than a technical curiosity.

Stuck in the Sky

On the gaming console, I’ve kept on playing Sky: Children of the Light. I just let myself wander around the virtual world while doing very simple quests and encounter other players to interact briefly with. Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve played a multiplayer game since Minecraft was still in beta over ten years ago.

Sky is a very simple and casual game in the end, but apparently it is something I’m quite satisfied with at the moment. I actually have another game (Tchia) already installed on my console, but I barely have played one hour of it yet. Surely I must get bored of Sky soon, though.

Enjoying some sightseeing in Sky.

Back in the real world, I’ve rediscovered my turntable and listened to some old albums my parent’s bought back in the 60s and 70s (mostly best of compilations). I must be getting old to actually enjoy playing them in the background, but I do learn something new when checking for additional information on some songs. Maybe I’ll post about my vinyl hobby on Mastodon?
