I’m on a full week of vacation, well needed this. Christmas visit obligations done with no clear plan what I will be doing for the rest of the year. Hopefully some mental recharging or rewiring happens. At least the days will (very) slowly get longer again.
Keeping myself a few days away from gaming, I rewatched Memoria again (last time was in August). I felt like the slow, artistic movie would work for me again and it did. Still a pretty amazing movie. Another hard-to-grasp movie I rewatched was Mulholland Drive. That movie didn’t make much sense either, but I liked it even more now.
As for gaming, I noticed that there was a free game called Sky available, which is from the same gaming studio that made the memorable Journey a long time ago. I gave Sky a shot, but so far it hasn’t impressed me (especially the social interaction with other players feels confusing), so I wonder will I bother with it.
According to the trophy statistics, the 59% of players completed the tutorial (like I did), but then the 2nd most common trophy takes a very sharp dip of only 10% completing it. It might not be a sign of a bad game, but more of most people just taking a peek at it since it is free.
I’ve also read a bit about a decentralized social network protocol, ActivityPub. Pretty interesting stuff. So interesting, that I’ve been trying out a plugin for WordPress that would make this blog a part of the network. Sure enough, I could find my blog via Mastodon, which is part of the network as well.
So the decentralized tech seems to work, but I wonder will it ever gain traction among the big tech corporations (though that can be viewed as a threat). If it does, then my long standing domain in the realms of the Internet might still have a place in the future where I won’t have to use private centralized services to share my thoughts (although I would probably continue to do so even without a fediverse).
