Flakes of snow

A patch of snowfall that didn’t immediately melt away.

Faint showers of snow lately and temperature around zero degrees, time to change my footwear to winter shoes.

Ever since the city bicycle season ended, I’ve had a hard time to reserve more time commuting to work, as road construction work makes public transport much slower than usual. I have however always walked back home, so at least I’m still getting some outdoor exercise, even if in already pitch black afternoons.

Speaking of exercise, I noticed I haven’t done a single 10km run all year, so I did one right away. Luckily it didn’t feel bad at all, so I guess I’m still in some acceptable shape. And as always, running feels good.

One thing I haven’t been doing lately is going to the movies, so I finally managed to drag myself to see an old classic To Kill a Mockingbird. Of course the novel itself is even more famous, which I haven’t read. The movie seemed like a good adaption of it, though.

Retro remake gaming

After completing Final Fantasy VII Remake the previous week, I haven’t been gaming that intensively (hour-wise). First, I decided to tackle an old tactical RPG called Tactics Ogre: Reborn. After playing so many action oriented games, a turn-based game felt like a nice change of pace.

Seems like a decent game, although feels overkill to play it on a PS5. Those pixel animations will hardly be pushing the hardware to its limits.

I’ve also spent some time playing the only DLC for the FFVII Remake, InterMISSION, which stars a character Yuffie from the original game. While I noticed I wasn’t really that excited to play it, I’ve fully enjoyed the frantic Japanese voice acting of our teenage ninja. I have chuckled.

Yuffie, the way too excited secret teenager agent from Wutai on a mission.

As if two games wasn’t enough in one week, I also played a bit of the original Final Fantasy VII. I wanted to relive how the story went in the original as opposed to the Remake. First I dug out my old PlayStation and plugged it into my TV via SCART to keep things as real as it was over 25 years ago, but the disc drive kept a unhealthy sounding noise while reading the disc, that I decided to continue on my PS3.

However, the PS1 software based emulator on my PS3 Slim wasn’t without its glitches, so I doubt I will be playing it that much, especially now that I’ve reached the point where the Remake ended. Didn’t expect it to take only around 5-6 hours (even if I did just rush it through).

A trip down memory lane. Final Fantasy VII on a PS1.

What else? I canceled my Tidal subscription. Let’s see how long can I manage without it. I still have Bandcamp and my own personal music library, after all.
