Winter solitude

Local beach “Hietsu” thinly covered in snow.

Temperature dropped below zero and some snow too. Winter came early, or maybe this is just a sneak preview. I like this kind of weather for long walks, though. The scenery feels serene.

I realized that taking a break from social media and the news in general, I am actually going through some period of information solitude. I guess I’m trying to clear my mind, but no change so far. Might be the lack of the sun messing things up in the background.

Holding the game controller continues

In the evenings I’ve been mostly playing Tactics Ogre: Reborn. It has been a long while since I’ve played something like this (the closest being X-Com: Enemy Within around seven years ago). I bought Tactics many months ago on sale and I only know this is considered a classic in its genre (tactical role-playing), so I started playing it somewhat blindfolded and with little expectations.

The battles look almost adorable, but the story itself is quite brutal.

After around 30 hours of playing, I can say while I’ve only scratched the surface (it is a long campaign), it has been a decent game so far. The game mechanics are quickly learned, but customization goes pretty deep for the tinkering addicts. The story is even more complex with many factions and characters been thrown at the player to remember. But the main narrative is that war (yet again) is not pretty and fair. As one character said: “Justice and War seldom keep company.”

What else? There were a lot of tempting Black Friday offers during the week, but looks like I managed to resist them all. I could have bought more games, but I really need to clear my current stack of games still waiting to be cracked open (three in total).

Like many have said, there are just too many games these days and too little time. Then again, nobody is forcing me to play them.
