Ballet and Data-driven art

One morning I saw this halo effect around the sun.

Still quick warm outside, but surely October will get chillier. Getting darker anyways, the one single thing you can trust year in, year out with precision.

Indoors, I went to see a ballet performance for the first time in ages, the classic Swan Lake by the Finnish National Ballet at the Opera House in Helsinki. It was a refreshing change of scenery, although I have mixed feelings about the ballet industry itself. Working as a ballet dancer is really tough for various reasons, and it proved so on stage as well when it was announced before the third act that the principal dancer (the white/black swan) injured herself and was replaced by another one.

Data driven art

Ryoji Ikeda’s exhibition at Amos Rex also opened and I was there right away with high expectations on how the museum’s unique spaces might be utilized for the location specific art works. Unfortunately they were not so imaginative, but it was decent none the less and I’m happy in general that Ikeda’s work is shown in Helsinki.

One of the (few) works from Ryoji Ikeda’s exhibition at Amos Rex.

I also finished Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. It took only around 25 hours, which was welcomed after playing so many 100+ hour games.

Graphics are the best I’ve played so far on any game console (and I don’t own a 4K television with HDR support). Voice acting was also great and plentiful. Maybe the main character Star-Lord’s was a bit off for me, but only because the rest of the cast was so good (the one who voiced Drax in particular).

The story itself managed to be interesting throughout the game (touching on a lot of subjects I wasn’t expecting it to). There was a lot of stuff and trivia I didn’t get as I know nothing about the Marvel universe (not my thing), but I didn’t let it bother me.

Overall, I liked the game, even if the actual game mechanics were nothing special. Below are some screenshots from the game, most of them using the photo mode feature (I think this is the first game where I could freely move the camera to the angle I wanted).

Finally, I went to see an old classic horror movie The Exorcist, which I’ve never seen before. It was okay (I’m done writing this blog entry now!).

Saw The Exorcist for the first time.
