Well, it took a summer vacation to break my weekly streak in blogging. I think that is an acceptable excuse.
As usual with my vacations, I didn’t have much of a clue what to do, so first I was in Helsinki doing the same things I do anyways (even some sudden critical work). The only exception was visiting a climbing venue after a few years. I wasn’t in good shape, but I still managed to complete the easiest routes. I should do this more often, as the feeling of conquering an artificial cliff feels good.
Later I spent a week in North-Karelia with relatives and visiting places. It was good to be out from Helsinki, but even the change of scenery made it clear that I was mentally lost in general. It was nice to just observe birds doing their thing while at the cabin.
- A barebone chapel inside a mining complex.
- Such a classic thing to witness: a butterfly trapped behind a window.
- Public art in Outokumpu, “Returning home”.
Once I returned to Helsinki, I went to some newish music festival called Downtown Calling, but I couldn’t get myself into the groove alone and sober. Glad I went there anyways, as bicycling back home in the late summer evening turned out to be more enjoyable.

Ismo Alanko at Downtown Calling. Solid performance once again, though I wish he had the nerve to drop a few classics from his setlist.
Oh, I cancelled my MidJourney subscription for the time being, as I hardly used it last month. Maybe I’ll return to it later this year.
