Crime & Chaos

As usual, I’ll start with the weather, which has been quite nice, or at least not alarmingly hot as in other parts of the world. But about me then.

I managed to finish two projects during my final week of vacation. One has reading the classic novel Crime & Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The new Finnish translation was easy to read, although the Russian names were a bit frustrating to keep up with, as the same person could have many names and some share same surnames despite not being relatives. I had to make notes to keep things in track.

Many nuances the story contained were surely missed by me as I’m not familiar with Russian culture, but it was still worth reading (and recommending). Glad I pulled that through, but my next book won’t be War & Peace.

The other finished project was completing the video game Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. It still wasn’t a perfect game (my top annoyance being constantly cleaning up a full item inventory from looting), but I liked the main character Jack in a weird way, who was a one-dimensional, single-minded “I’m here to destroy CHAOS” dude with a reason being like that as the story progressed enough.

Top hats for the development team to use Frank Sinatra’s “My way” for the ending credits. Jack sure did it his way in the end.

Don’t get caught by the tongue when Jack is around.

What else? I went to see the new Oppenheimer movie, which was good, just good. Next week I’ll go see Barbie to complete my Barbenheimer quest.

Another quest this week was to see something new, so I went to watch two local club football matches on the same day, as there was an offer to see both for a single ticket. It was HJK‘s reserve team in the second division and the women’s team in the women’s top Finnish league.

It wasn’t a bad pastime and the crowd (around 350 in both matches) seemed to be mostly friends and relatives of the players on the pitch. Next week I’ll go see the men’s top division team play a Champions League qualifying game, which I assume will be more packed with spectators.

Watched some local club football matches (the action was at the other end).

Thinking about the past week, I also made a rare visit to a friend and played some tabletop roleplaying after a very long break (maybe four years), which was nice.
