Returned to work, but it was a rather quiet week as everyone else was mostly still on vacation. Weather has been rain and sunshine, I’m okay with that.
I saw the much hyped Barbie movie, which I really wanted to like (even though in ways I wasn’t the primary target audience), but fell a bit short from my high expectations. The acting (mainly Robin and Goslin) and the sets in Barbieland were great, but otherwise it felt it was getting a bit too much tangled in its own humour, political messaging and product placement. Certainly one of the weirdest movies I’ve seen this year and worth seeing anyways.
People kicking a ball
My exploration as a football spectator continued by going to watch a Champions League qualifying match between local club HJK and Norwegian champions Molde FK. Against expectations HJK won the match and it was nice see how the core fans supported their team with endlessly seeming chants and songs.
So I obtained tickets see the Finnish national team play a match in the Euro qualifications later in the autumn to get a feel of an even bigger football game atmosphere.
During the weekend I went to Ropecon, a role-playing convention. It sure is different than it was back in the 90s and extremely impressive to think that it is still organised entirely by volunteers. Back in the day Ropecon was probably my most anticipated annual event and went to at least the first five Ropecons. These days it was more of a random curiosity thing and despite having a weekend ticket this time, I could drag myself there for only one day.
Final Fantasy swap
Though last week I completed Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, I continued playing it to achieve the rare Platinum trophy in the game (awarded once all other trophies are unlocked). There is some extra downloadable content for the game, but for now I decided to move on to the next game on my waiting list, which is Final Fantasy XV (Royal Edition).
I had this also as a physical disc version and as I feared, the version in the disc was almost just a token of proof for the console I bought the game, as the console downloaded over 50 GB of updates and extra material (in fact, the “royal pack” additions were not on the disc, but on a voucher code).
With my slow internet connection, it took around twelve hours(!) to download everything. The whole game took a bit over 100 GB of storage, which is quite a massive amount. Maybe it has updated textures for the PS5 as this is originally a PS4 game, I don’t know.

Only now I noticed that both game covers have a huge demonic figure, although on the right his outstretching pose is suddenly interrupted by a female figure.
As for expectations towards the game, I’m just hoping it will be better than the Final Fantasy games I’ve played recently. I know next to nothing about the story, characters or battle mechanics, apart that the world mythos is technically the same as in the Final Fantasy XIII series, but heavily downplayed in the plot. I’m expecting maybe around 90 hours to complete the game.
Oh yeah, one more thing I forgot to mention in my previous blog post: I got a hole-in-one in Wordle. I guess I’ve completed that game now.
