Time to write again about stuff I tend to write here: what I’ve been playing lately on my PlayStation without going too deep into it. Exciting, isn’t it?
After 40 hours of No Man’s Sky (of which maybe three hours was a multiplayer session), I decided to uninstall it to force a break, because I noticed it was a pretty addictive game with endless stuff to do and made me lose track of time. There are times when it is nice to have a way to fast forward time, but a line needs to be drawn somewhere.
Since the multiplayer feature required me to subscribe to PlayStation Plus, I decided to go for the top tier Premium choice to see what it would offer alongside.
Well, lots of games from their massive game catalog to choose from (and some free movies on Sony’s own movie streaming service that were quite underwhelming). However, I only plan to have the subscription for one month and that would mean starting any game in the catalog would pressure me to finish it by the time the subscription ends.
So I picked Anno: Mutationem pretty much based on its cool looking pixel art cyberpunk world and what seemed like a short and sweet game to complete.
While visual presentation was unique, the game’s plot was a hot mess and the game mechanics were certainly nothing to write home about. Thankfully it took only ten hours to complete by choosing an easy difficulty and having the voice acting in Japanese was at least a good listening practice.
Coming back to subscriptions, Mubi lured me back to the service with a four months for 12 euros offer. Although I don’t think I’ll be watching that much movies during the summer months, watching even one would still be the price of one movie ticket!
All this writing about subscriptions reminded me that I had a Apple Arcade three month trial at the start of the year, but in the end I didn’t play anything on it apart from some testing as I’m not a mobile gamer (the games available for the macOS were mostly mobile games supersized). Glad I didn’t pay a single cent for it.
