Evenings with androids

Found this scenery one day to be quite relatable.

Pretty foggy days lately. Foggy is also my memory what I’ve actually been doing. Well, apart from video gaming.

I finished the video game Nier: Automata (around 50 hours). What a weird yet refreshing game, plenty of pros and cons in this one, yet I’ll still say it is a classic for the unconventional design quirks it does throughout the game. I enjoyed playing it and there were plenty of moments that made me think when was the last time I’ve played a game that felt original.

It could easily be bashed for many reasons, but all that is forgiven thanks to its strengths. The story of an endless war on earth in a distant future between invading aliens and its robots against humanity’s last line of defense, the androids, was full of twists and turns that kept the narrative interesting. Gave me some distant Neon Genesis vibes, actually.

Oh, and the soundtrack is amazing, which very well gelled with what was going on in the game, if you were just exploring the world, engaged in a tense battle or watching the story unfold.

I’m glad I knew next to nothing about this game, because the trailers and reviews I watched after finishing it proved they would have spoiled a lot of surprises. Therefor I won’t write more about it here. I’m sure anyone who has played it would agree on this decision.

This was one weird, clunky, yet memorable game.

What else. I bought a vinyl after a year long break, this time an old compilation of sailor songs in Finnish. Reasons.
