Great weather, bicycling to work and back, running and getting used to the new game console. Plus taking a day trip to Lake Tuusula and visiting buildings where famous Finnish artists once lived in. Decent week.

Payed a visit to the great Finnish composer’s grave during the weekend (among various other points of interest around Lake Tuusula).
Gaming generation thoughts
Moving from PS3 to PS5, I now see for myself what has improved in gaming. For example, the concept of saving and loading save files seems to be blurred away as the console saves one’s progress constantly in the background. Also, there are no loading times to speak of thanks to the speedy hardware. There is not always even the need to load the game again the next day, I can simply pick of where I left when I closed the console. Nice things to save time.
I already had around five games in physical format waiting to be played before I even bought the new console, as they were all more or less on sale. When I inserted the first game (Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin) and the console started copying the files from the disk, it also started downloading a huge patch file that took around 4 hours to complete thanks to my modest internet connection. Well, still better than downloading the whole game of course.

Some annoying things still remain in these latest generation consoles, but I wasn’t expecting patches this massive.
It was a moment when I started thinking about these disc versions not even trying to be final products, but a niche, outdated selling format for those who really like to have their purchases in a physical form like music collectors want their favourite music on vinyl, cassette or even CD.
In that sense these disc versions, even the standard editions, might become collectible items one day (although I have no idea how many are actually manufactured for each game). Who knows, maybe some games might not be available online in a distant future and the discs are suddenly the only way to play them.
Or maybe some hardcore fans want to experience their favourite games in their version 1.0 state, like seeing the original Star Wars trilogy before too much changes and additions were made to ruin it. Okay, maybe that was a thought taken too far.
