Gotta feel for my automobile

Yet another longer pause typing anything here, recent world events have taken a lot of my attention. But I won’t get into that in this blog, I want to keep it safe from all of that.

Nobody gonna take my car

I completed Pacific Drive. It was a great game about finding a way out of a restricted, hazardous zone sealed off by the government a long time ago. Hard to say what made it totally click for me.

Was it the survival aspect? The real feeling that messing up will actually hamper progress? The eerie mood of driving through a dark forest road as heavy rain rattles against the windshield? Encountering weird anomalies and not sure are they safe or not? Spending countless hours just fixing and fine-tuning your precious car?

All these do stack up into a package that makes it a unique game. This was fun, tense, relaxing, scary and different. I also realized this game has no weapons as such, which is a refreshing change.

Tearing the battered car apart after a drive for a much needed maintenance.

The music from basically unknown artists that comes from the game’s radio is also great (the original soundtrack ain’t bad either), but I wish the PS5 version had the option of bringing in an own selection of music into the airwaves as the PC version apparently has, I guess it simply isn’t (legally) possible. I would have added at least Gary Numan’s “Cars” into the mix.

A calmer moment in Pacific Drive.

I could have just continued playing it after completing it (it took a slow 75 hours to do so), but I’ll take a planned pause now and wait for at least one confirmed major update to the game. Apparently the indie game has been a success with over 1 million copies sold and there is even a television adaption in the works.

Mubi movies

I’ve watched some movies on Mubi as well, Mishima: A life in four chapters being the best of the recent bunch. I didn’t know anything about the writer the film is about or even that Philip Glass composed the music. Fascinating, unique biopic of a controversial author.

I also rewatched the classic soviet sci-fi movie Stalker (partly because of Pacific Drive had similar some vibes from it). Still one of a kind movie, but it can’t be helped it still is just too tediously slow at times.

What else comes to mind? I’m seriously considering deleting my Facebook account completely. It was deactivated for over a year and now logging into it recently, I clearly haven’t missed anything.

I was surprised how many still had their account active there, though most only had birthday greetings from others in their timeline. Still too futile to think it is going MySpace any time soon.
