I’ve been bicycling in December, which is new to me. This is mostly thanks to transforming my secondary bicycle into winter use by having it equipped with winter tyres. The grip on frozen surfaces is great, so I see no reason why I shouldn’t continue commuting to work and back home this way. Well, unless the weather gets really bad.
Movies in the dark
Dark evenings have kept me indoors, so I’ve been watching a lot of movies on Mubi: Polish abstract distopian sci-fi, a black comedy made during the height of World War II, French animation of a friendship between a bear and a mouse, a woman rising the ranks from the ruins of Nazi Germany, cab drivers around the world, murder on a train, a remake of a classic vampire movie, a 90s femme fatale crime story, a wife’s bond to her piano, a terminally ill man encountering memories from the past and finally a teacher getting into a relationship with a student.
All of them were worth the watch, either because they were genuinely good, historically relevant or just something off the beaten track. Maybe not as easy to digest as today’s streamlined tv-series, but they sure give more diverse perspectives.
Browsing my watching history on Mubi, I was surprised to learn I’ve casually watched well over a hundred movies on the service around the two years I’ve subscribed to it. I somehow thought I haven’t been using the streaming service as much as I liked, but turns out I’ve still managed to see a healthy amount of movies. Made me think how many movies I’ve actually seen in my lifetime. Thousands?
