Days are shorter and dark nights longer, that is the same every year we know with minute precision. The warmer than usual autumn weather, not so much. I don’t think I’ve ever bicycled as late as November, yet now the weather allows it. Great, and maybe not so great.
Social media protocols
Lately I’ve been spending time again in the so called fediverse mainly through my Mastodon account (which uses the ActivityPub protocol), trying to understand its pros, cons and differences to other commercial social media networks a little better. Yes, obviously the best thing is that there aren’t any algorithms rubbing my face with ads or my data is not a product to sell forward.
However, not many friends are (actively) in the fediverse, opting to stick with Facebook, Instagram, X and Bluesky, making it feel a bit barren. Well, that is the freedom of choice and what is most convenient for them.
More audiovisual consumption
On Apple TV+ I started watching a sci-fi tv-series Foundation and while initially it felt like a great hard science epic with an interesting world, it falters in the script, managing to be highly interesting and extremely dumb at the same time. Unfortunately it got so ridiculous towards the second season that I feel like I can’t continue with it. Surely there must be something good on this streaming service.
On the music listening front, I’ve continued listening to vinyls and c-cassettes. One rediscovery was a c-cassette I got from a Japanese pen pal over 20 years ago. Such good times when I was totally excited about everything Japan and did these kinds of cultural exchanges (I sent a CD-R with a mix of Finnish rock and metal bands).
Back then discovering Japanese music wasn’t as easy as it is now. And perhaps not as exciting either.
