Cake skill unlocked

Time of truth, so what have I’ve been up to lately? Have I been active like I’ve aimed to be? Or have I just let a week just slip away? Questions that have been circling around everyone’s head ever since I started this blogging project.

Pretty much the highlight of the week must be the fact I made a coffee cake (devil’s cake was its name), quite likely for the first time in my life. My limited kitchen skills needed something new and making a simple cake was the solution. It even turned out to be tasty, although knowing how much sugar it consumed didn’t make it appealing to eat in volumes.

A good skill to have for future tea invitations and potluck events, though.

Another highlight might be visiting the gym after a long break. Yes, getting some sweat and exhausting the body sure feels good. I really should do this on a regular basis.

On the cultural front, I went to see a sci-fi movie titled Looper today. I didn’t know anything about the film (only during the film I learned Bruce Willis was in it), but it turned out to be pretty good. Just like Inception, it’s better not to think too much about the logic of the timelines, it will only ruin the fun.

At the same time I bought a serial ticket for five movies, so that way I can make sure I’ll keep going to the movies in the near future too. It’s all about being active now, see?

Finally, I hate the Internet.

Or to be more precise, surfing the web. It was always been a huge time sink in my life, I admit. Web sites, social media, the whole thing is just wandering around in circles waiting for any piece of information to show up. This is something clearly blocking me from being active in new ways.

I need to keep my laptop’s lid closed more often. Mornings I can still manage without my fix of information, but evenings are the tough ones to handle. It is amazing how routinely I open my laptop after arriving home like putting the kettle on for tea.

And once that web browser pops up, it’s all downhill from there. Checking the usual sites one after another, reading irrelevant status updates, watching videos and after all that – instead of just closing the browser – I find myself looping the same script over again until I realize a whole evening was wasted consuming bits of basically useless and shattered information. You probably know what I’m talking about.

So the following week I’ll try to stay away from the Internet as much as possible while at home (hell, I still need it at work). Maybe I’ll find myself reading a book after a long pause. We will see.

What is the relation of this photo with this blog entry? None. I could have put a photo of the cake I did, but I didn't take one. So here is a photo of a roof I took almost exactly two years ago.
